I remember the first day I met Kourtney in room 201 in South Hall. I had arrived early in the day, eager to move all of my belongings in and secretly wanted first pick at which side of the room I would claim as mine (sorry I never admitted this until now, Kourtney! ha!) My parents and I made the drive to UW-Stout from my hometown of Burnsville, Minnesota. I left my purple pride (go vikings!) to embark on my college adventure in the land of cheese and Miller Lite, also known as Wisconsin. Admittedly, I wasn’t sure what to expect after leaving home, but I knew that my years at Stout would be ones for the books.

Alright, let’s backtrack a bit. I remember the day I received the email I had been waiting for all summer. I eagerly opened it to find out that my roommate would be Kourtney Willkomm. So what’s the first thing I did? FACEBOOK CREEP! Duh! Kourtney and I befriended each other on social media and immediately I received a message from her saying, “Heyyyyy, im your roommate!!!” We continued exchanging and answering random questions about ourselves, covering any topic from our favorite food and music to boys and everything in between. The random match seemed almost too good to be true! Everything fell perfectly into place.

Fast-forward to September 2011. Kourtney walked in the room with the biggest smile on her face, followed by a gigantic hug. To this day, Kourtney is one of the most outgoing and welcoming people I have ever known, and I knew it since day one. Of course, her mom and my parents demanded they got a picture of us before leaving (and I’m so glad they did!) Oh to be “young” again…

Kourtney and I shared so much more than just a dorm room. We were each other’s best friends, even when it was hard. We celebrated the good times, gained friends, lost friends, went through break ups, and still ended up on top. Looking back, sometimes I honestly wonder how any two girls are supposed to live together within the confines of a small bedroom and still end up being friends when its all said and done. Seriously, doesn’t that just sound insane?! However, we defined the odds no matter what the obstacles were!

Nick is Kourtney’s perfect match and I honestly cannot even define it in words. I literally almost just typed a series of corny “match” phrases (like, he’s the milk to her cookie…yeah, I said it) but even those didn’t do it justice. Nick is a kind, humble, and hardworking man, which goes perfectly with Kourtney’s fiery personality and ability to light up the room (oh, and her sarcastic sense of humor-my fav!) These two compliment each other in a way that we all dream of to find one day. The way they looked in each others eyes, kissed, and held each other’s hands through our engagement session (despite the ninety-five degree heat…freaking troopers, I tell ya!) left an impression on me forever.

 

My best friend has found the love of her life-something we talked and dreamed about years ago in room 201.
