Four years ago I discovered my love for a new sport-boxing. I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that learning how to box changed the trajectory of my life in so many positive ways. I became physically/mentally healthier, developed stronger discipline, learned a knew skill, and found a new inner sense of self confidence that I had been yearning for all my life.
When Emily reached out to book her session she told me that she was a black belt in karate. (*cue mind-blown emoji*) I knew IMMEDIATELY that I needed to photograph her in her element and felt a very strong personal attachment to this session.
My goal was to really capture the “female warrior” kind of strength that you see in athletes that are dedicated to their craft. Emily is a true master at what she does and has earned numerous awards, while also continuing to learn and grow at an elite level.
Photographing a senior like Emily is such an honor! I loved returning back to a classic location, Centennial Lakes, while also mixing in a brand new field I found in a random Edina neighborhood. Our karate portraits took place at Bde Maka Ska/Lake Calhoun right at sunset. I got SO lucky with the most gorgeous “cotton candy” colors in the clouds for the final minutes of our session.
Thanks for an amazing photoshoot, Emily! You’re an inspiration!
